The Trinity Health First Response Ground Ambulance EMT provides clinical support services by delivering basic emergency medical care, patient transport, and related patient care activities for individuals in prehospital, interfacility transport, and hospital-associated settings. In this role, the EMT performs patient assessments and appropriate interventions within the established EMT scope of practice, in accordance with Trinity Health policies, medical direction, and approved EMS protocols. As part of a collaborative EMS team, the EMT works closely with fellow responders, clinical partners, and support staff to ensure safe, timely, and coordinated care. The position contributes to a structured and professional response environment where teamwork, communication, and shared accountability support consistent patient care and positive clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide basic emergency medical care and transport to patients in prehospital and interfacility settings in accordance with EMT scope of practice and EMS protocols.
Perform patient assessments, obtain vital signs, and assist with treatments and interventions under direction and protocol.
Operate and maintain equipment, stretchers, and vehicles safely; assist with lifting, moving, and transferring patients.
Document care and transport activities accurately and timely in required EMS and hospital systems.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, EMS partners, and receiving facility staff.
Participate in training, drills, and quality improvement activities; perform other EMS duties as assigned.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Must be National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certified EMT at time of hire
North Dakota EMT registration submitted to North Dakota Department of Health Division of Emergency Medical Systems (DEMS) within 30 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire
Valid Driver's License must be able to be insured to operate a motor vehicle
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or GED strongly preferred
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
Knowledgeable of current trends, developments, and concepts in prehospital care
Available for on call duty as scheduled or requested
Physical Requirements:
The Trinity Health First Response Ground Ambulance EMT requires the ability to stand, walk, and move for 8-12 hours per shift; frequently lift, carry, push, and pull patients and equipment; and perform frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and other physical activities associated with emergency medical services. Team members must be able to lift, push, or pull at least 50 pounds and assist with heavier loads as part of a team to support patient mobility, stretcher handling, and equipment movement. Adequate vision, hearing, and communication abilities are required for safe patient care and operation of vehicles and equipment.
Environmental Requirements:
Work is performed in ambulances, patient homes, healthcare facilities, and outdoor or community environments, with potential exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, weather extremes, traffic hazards, noise, and emotionally stressful situations. Duties may involve working in confined spaces, on uneven terrain, and in high traffic or uncontrolled environments. The role requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols; variable shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on call assignments, may be required.
