Position Summary:

The Laundry Tech supports the hospital's environmental services operations by ensuring a continuous supply of clean, safe, and properly processed linens for all patient care and support areas. This role is essential to maintaining daily hospital readiness, contributing directly to patient comfort, infection prevention, and staff efficiency. The Laundry Tech collects, sorts, transports, and distributes linens in alignment with established infection prevention practices and departmental workflows, helping ensure consistency and reliability across all service areas. Working as part of a collaborative and supportive team, this position partners closely with clinical and support staff to ensure linens are available when and where they are needed. The role contributes to a well-organized, efficient linen supply system and operates within a respectful, team-oriented environment where coordination, communication, and shared accountability support smooth hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and transport soiled linens from patient care units and designated areas following established infection control and handling procedures.
  • Sort, load, and process linens through washing, drying, and finishing equipment to ensure proper cleaning and quality standards are met.
  • Deliver clean linens to units, stock designated storage areas, and rotate inventory to maintain appropriate levels throughout the hospital.
  • Inspect linens for damage or contamination and remove items from circulation according to departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safe operation of laundry equipment and work areas, reporting any mechanical or safety concerns promptly.
  • Document linen quantities, deliveries, and usage patterns to support accurate inventory control and operational efficiency.


Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Educational Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare, or commercial laundry setting preferred.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Dependable, detail oriented, and able to follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The Laundry Tech is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and reach while sorting and processing linens. The role involves lifting, pushing, and pulling linen bags, carts, and supply bundles, often requiring moderate physical effort throughout the shift. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are needed to operate machinery safely, read labels, and identify soil or damage on linens.

Environmental Requirements:

This position works in a hospital laundry environment with exposure to heat, humidity, moving mechanical equipment, and cleaning chemicals. The role may encounter soiled linens that could contain bodily fluids and requires strict adherence to infection prevention and PPE guidelines. Work volumes may vary throughout the day, and the Laundry Tech must adapt to fast-paced periods and fluctuating unit needs while maintaining safety and cleanliness standards.
